Father's Day

Father's day is a cool time. We spent this father's day (and most of the week preceding it) camping at Outdoor Adventures in Davison. Father's day is cool, because... well, my kids actually had to be reminded . But, we had fun. There were homemade cards, a cool breakfast from Heather and just some good joshing around.

Somehow, I think I actually made my kids eyes roll a couple times (yes, even on Father's day). They were distraught cause they didn't have money to buy a fancy this or a new whatchamacallit (computer related, of course, lol) that I might have wanted. So, without trying, I made their eyes roll. I told them "That stuff doesn't matter, what matters is the blessings that I have here. The gifts that you are." Groans echoed through the camper. No, I'm not the perfect father. Sometimes I yell too much, sometimes I get upset at one kid for what another did and sometimes I'm just completely wrong. Sometimes (maybe a lot of times) I also expect my oldest son to act like he's 25 or 35 and not 13. Or, I expect my 10 year old to act like a young lady in her 20's.

But, in spite of that, in spite of my shortcomings, I do feel that way. Like my kids are a precious treasure and gifts from God. And for Father's day it's really cool, I see my son growing into a Godly young man, I see my daughter being inquisitive about the things around her. I see my 6 year old sons sense of adventure and my 4 year old sons sense of fun. Oh, and Kara, 2 years old and she just pulls the cutest stuff, I'm not sure what she'll be like when she grows up, but I know she's going to be breaking hearts somewhere.

So, on Father's day, to me, I tried to let my kids know how special they were, how they were my Father's day gift... because they are, every day.
